SPB Shell ,a must to have app on your S60 and S^3 touch phones
I have been going through the SPB Shell application Ver 3.7 for last few days.SPB Shell is a User Interface running on your current operating system or UI of the phone. This is available for Symbian S60 V5 devices like Xpress music 5800 ,Nokia N97s and also supports the new arrivals like Nokia N8.(SPB Shell supports all other major platforms too )
Why do you need a Program like SPB Mobile Shell, the great UI you have got to work ,you will start to love your phone more,that should be the real intention behind the creation of the software I hope.
Multiple Home Screens:You get multiple home screens with plenty of widgets to choose.Home screens come in two name sets “professional” and “Life Style” each set can have upto 5 home screens with separate settings and widgets(you get 10 home screens max),sliding up and down,left and write changes the home screens.
Tiles and Carsoul Views are available for Main menu of selection.

The Life Style Layout allows you to change the wallpaper ,while the Professional Layout keeps the default wallpaper set by your theme.Changing the Wall paper is easy and fun ,just you can download high quality wallpapers directly from the settings menu of the home screen and change it in real time without leaving the current screen.If you wish ,yes you can use images from your photo gallery .
A Lot of Widgets to choose :
When you customize the home screen ,you will see a big number of widgets to choose ,most of them works with great integration with the phone’s OS as you can do changes directly by tapping the widgets ,some widgets working like a shortcut and takes you to the in depth phone’s menu. The profile widget immediately changes the profile without going inside from the home screen,I would love to have all the widgets functioning like it.
Application Menu Scrolling: The Applications can be found very faster than the Original N97′s UI,if you use more applications with your device you might have experienced a mere delay in scrolling the applications menu particularly in N97 ,Spb Shell makes it perfect.Now I don’t like to go back and use the original application menu any more.

Favourite Contacts :Large Icons are available for favourite contacts ,carousel view is funny and nice for the contacts ,editing and applying images from gallery or directly from menu is easy.
Application Launching time: Apps launching is Extremely Fast :The touch screen is being more responsive than in the original UI,applications are launching faster and you can get a mostly used programs menu ,it automatically changes according to your use (like windows vista and 7)
Multi Tasking on Spb Shell
Multitasking and the SPB Shell Task Manager: By pressing the menu key for few seconds you get the Task Manager that shows the program running (just like the original OS) but the simply you can close the programs by tapping the close buttons displayed near to each application ,Due to the lack of the memory of your device some time some programs may be closed by the OS.
The memory Management /crashes /Complications of Mobiel Shell 3.7 : My friend from Thunderrror.com blogreports that he is unable to run Nokia Messaging consequently with SPB Mobile Shell , I manage to run Nokia Messaging in my Phone with SPB Shell. OVI store frequently get crashes when I run in Mobile Shell environment,Nunlock automatically sloes it some times. This is may be due to the N97′s memory size,but if you are not an Application Junkie like us ,you will not have any probs I hope.
Final Observations: Call management is easy ,but the name search of the contacts allows you to use only the T9 style key board,it is difficult to find some names quickly (if you have other options too pls let me know ). Answering and disconnecting the calls some time not responsive immediately. You have to install SPB Black or Red themes(download free of charge and can use without SPB Mobile shell also )in order to get the full mobile shell experience everywhere in the phone (it is not a must ). I didn’t say I can’t run it along with SPB shell, Just that I like to have two or more other programs running along with the shell (for eg.: opera + nimbuzz) and this isn’t possible if you’re running nokia messaging.
