2009 Q4 Mobile Sales -Major Brands are regaining the market

Year 2010 brings all the hope for the mobile phone makers as the 2009 Q4 reports are more favourable for most of the brands. Nokia ,Samsung & Mortrola gained increments in shipments and sales.

There was a   drop in sales in 2008 and first Q of 2009 even for the major mobile maker Nokia.

Nokia Q4 2009 highlights :

  • Market share of 39% in 2009, up from 37% in Q4 2008
  • Q4 net income of €948 million, 26 eurocents/share, up 65% year-over-year
  • Liquid assets of €8.9 billion
  • 329 million units world wide, up 8% from last year
  • Converged device market share of 40%, up from 35% last year (Source : Nokia Official Financial Report )
  • Nokia Gains US market as secret growth . 

    Google Analytics Report Shows Higher US visitors for Symbiandreams.com


    One interesting fact ,that We at Symbiandreams found ,the increased number of Nokia users in US within last 3 months as there was lot of visits to our site and groups sites. 98% of the visits referred by Google search for N97 applications,N97 firmware Ver 2.0 and 2.1 . It is a good news that Nokia is penitrating Apple and Blackberry dominated US market with N97.

    Samsung gets 16% growth in shipments

     Samsung Highlights:

    • Samsung Shipped 14% more than the phones sold in 2009′s Q3.
    • Samsung estimates their market share  in 2009 Q4 to be about 23%, which is better than both the 18% in Q4 2008 and the 21% in Q3 2009.
    • 2009 whole year  operating profit is around 3.56 billion US dollars while in 2008 it was only 2.57 billion US dollars.

    There is a silent growth in another brand mobile in the market ,yes I talk about Motorola. Motorola  also shows some growth in 2009.

    Motorola reduces losses in 2009

    Motorola Financial Facts – Q4 2009 :

  • Fourth-quarter sales of $5.7 billion
  • Fourth-quarter GAAP earnings of .06 per share, including net charges of .03 per share from highlighted items
  • Full-year sales of $22.0 billion; full-year GAAP loss from continuing operations of .05 per share, compared to a net loss of $1.87 per share in 2008
  • Total cash* of $8.0 billion, a sequential quarterly increase of $839 million
  • Completed cost-reduction actions that generated more than $1.9 billion in cost savings for full-year 2009, with $1.5 billion in cost savings from Mobile Devices
  • Enterprise Mobility Solutions sales of $2.0 billion; operating earnings of $368 million
  • Home & Networks Mobility sales of $2.0 billion; operating earnings of $91 million
  • Mobile Devices sales of $1.8 billion, excluding $200 million in deferred revenue on certain smartphones; shipped 12 million handsets, including 2 million smartphones; operating loss of $132 million (Source : Official Motorola Financial Reports)
  • Still motorola shows lost in Q4 2009 ,but it is lesser than 2008 which reveals a growth in sales or cost cuts .

    Sony Ericsson Gets some Hope

    Comparing Sony Ericssons’s Q4 2008 and Q4 2009 reports ,there is a growth but still running on a -10% operating margin .

    Sony Ericsson Q4 Highlights:

    • Improved quarterly financial results reflected success of refreshed portfolio
    • Transformation programme bearing fruit and to continue
    • Announced first Android-based phone, the XPERIA™ X10 (read the full report here )

    Year 2010 gives lot of hope to mobile manufacturers and the mobile support community.
