Why all this ignorance for N97 Product code 0586199, Nokia ?
There are lot of ignorance from Nokia to my Nokia N97(Product code 0586199) that I bought in Malaysia at Nokia’s authorized reseller . Along with this product code some other few product codes of Nokia N97 also have the same problem ,that I understood from Nokia Support forums .This is behalf of thousands of the same phone users. I hope Nokia will listen this at least by now.
Dear Nokia ,
The following updates are not available to this phone and I am wondering why Nokia ignore this N97 model for all this.
- Still the users (including me)of Nokia N97-Product code 0586199 runing Firmware version 12.0.026 while other N97 users enjoy the Kinetic scrolling and other features from Firmware update 2.0 +
- Memory Re Organizer is not available in the Software Update Menu for N97 product code 0586199. (We re organize the memory manually…ha ha ha)
- At Last now the OVI Maps made free for million of users of N97 but that update is not available for the N97 product code 0586199. I got a free navigation for a period of 65 days after updating OVI map 3.2 (that was the only option available that time )but after hard resetting my device ,when I checked from the Software Updater ,there is no options of OVI map download ,I get only the useless (at this point)OVI Contacts and Ngage Game and Nokia messeging updates there.
Whenever there is an announcment of updates and special features available to N97 ,I am doubt to have it in my device . Nokia why all this happen to this model since it is from authentic Nokia delaer and I paid more than the original price in US for this device with lot of taxes in Malaysia ?.
If anyone have the same product code and issues like this please update us .hope to listen back from Nokia !

Hi there,
I have the same issue (same product code from Malaysia, I stay in Subang Jaya). While others are enjoying new firmware version v21, I am still stuck with v12, 2 version level behind!
How can we wake them up to realize this? Or should we just conclude that “Don’t buy any nokia phone in Malaysia” ?!?

Hi,
I believe you can update via the latest Ovi Suite (www.ovi.com, if you have windows 7, you’ll need to get the version from betalabs.nokia.com as Win7 support is beta for now.)
What I did was simply plug in my N97 and go to software update on the Ovi Suite and it just updated.
Also, for Over The Air update, you don’t use the Software update tool. Instead, you use *#0000# on your dialpad, then go to options and ‘check for updates’.
Hope this helps. I believe firmware before v20 can’t be updated over OTA so use the Ovi Suite method. I bought my N97 from Sungai Wang and it updates just fine. Worst case scenario, bring it to the nokia Care centre and they’ll update for you. But back up first as they will wipe off everything.

Hi Davidlian, I almost every two days check for firmware update via OVI Suite .ooooooops ,for N97 product code 0586199 no update available upto now.
once I went to Nokia care in November 2009 for my camera lens replacement(infront of Times Square,KL)they are not aware about the latest firmware update and told me to check online.Users know more than the guys at Nokia Care Malaysia.
I hope Only Nokia can tell us exactly what is the problem with this.

I bought Nokia N97 from Johor Bahru Last December. I also tried many times up to now to get the Firmware 2.0 ,I cannot get it. My friends from UK and many other part of the world have the latest firmware 2.1. My Nokia dealer also does not know the answer for this. If Nokia Officially tell us something it would be nice too XD. Thanks to bring up this matter Symbiandreams !

This is the Response from Nokia Care Malaysia for my email regarding N97 Firmware, today (08/02/2010):
Good day!
In response to your inquiry, as we’ve checked on our website based on the product code you have provided, the latest available software for your device is version 12.0.026. If this version is greater than your current software version, you may update the phone software of your phone yourself with Nokia Software Updater.
Please note this will erase phone data. Before updating, take first a backup to mass memory or use PC Suite to create backup in PC.
However, a higher software version for Nokia N97 will eventually released in Malaysia but currenty there are no confirmed date yet. Kindly check regularly with the Nokia Software Updater website.

You may directly check with our authorized Nokia Care Center for the availability of software update as usually it will be available with them first.

one more find out about free Navigation for N97 product code- 0586199 and so on.Now Nokia updated it’s free map navigation announcement ,where it is clearly stated that The N97 should have firmware 2.0 in order to get the free navigation and the availablity of this firmware depends on country and operator…so we have to pray god to get this golden fm 2.0 to enjoy all this free offers…next time i will not buy a malaysian nokia… .

I have exactly the same problem here in South Africa. My product code is: 0584965. I am also still on version 12.0.026.206.
I also want to know from Nokia why they make the firmware updates available only to certain countries and not to other.
Would love to know if there are other South African users that have overcome this problem and how they did it.

I had the same issue with another product code, there is a few problematic ones actually.
Dudes… take it to your nokia dealer, tell them your maps isnt working and you need the firmware upgrade, the fix for the GPS module, and the camera lens cover. They will do all of this for free, under warrantee. I’m in South Africa and the guys at the store know about all these issues and performed all this with no hassles – Still don’t know why Nokia doesn’t roll-out updates via the tool or web…

im also have the same problem.. from the past month, i’ve already notice about the release of nokia update which is 2.0.. but im keep on trying, but it not work.. still got the same version, still shows that ‘there no update awailable’. SUCK…
