Horizontal line issue in Nokia N97 Screen
Horizontal line in N97
Black Horizontal Line appears in my Nokia N97 Screen from yesterday.
This is another shocking news for N97 users. I have used by new N97 for only two months. I have done one time Camera Lense Protection cover replacement last month,and my new lens cover started to scratch and I have to go for another replacement. Now my turn to send the device to repair for this new screen issue.

Nokia Malaysia sent me a formal ready made message ,that does not have any solution or idea about the problem ,they have updated me with their warranty policy and as per the policy I have to send the device to Malaysia as I purchased it there and now in another country.
Mean time the line disappeared for one day and appeared after using Nokia Messaging. I have noticed it is a problem in drawing the lines and refreshing the screen for other program interface.Now I have posted in Nokia Support Forum ,let us see the out come.
Update 07/01/2010: Exactly Now one month from I posted the support request at Nokia Support Forum. There is no response from any one but there is over 172 views so far.

The line has been disappeared today…Thank god ! so it is not a hardware problem some software issue. Nokia Malaysia just forwarded a ready made message ,in brief they request me to find my way to send the handset to them directly. any how I am safe from a great disaster .

Oh my god the line again appear after few days,when I use a program (nokia mail or opera mini )the line of the program stay remains after I quit also. is it s hardware related problem ? can any one please let me know ?

i have the same problem from yesterday after I install some new software (opera and nokia msg), but my lines are in the low part of the phone screen. I’ll try to uninstall the new apps. and restart the phone, I’ll keep you posted,please do the same if you find the sollution.

Hi Manimaraa, my friend in misery
I have the same prob since yesterday, only on my N97 screen there are TWO lines on the lower part of the screen, horizontal offcourse. I was googling today, and as I can see you and me, and some MartinkSmith on NOKIA support forum are the only one with these kind of problem. I am glad that it is not a hardware problem, I was almost sure it is . . but now I dont know what to do. The lines appears after I’ve install some apps yesterday (opera mini, nokia mail, torchscreen . . .). Today I uninstall some of them, but no result??? What should I do? Please keep me inform (my mail is dimitar27(at)yahoo.com) I’ll do the same.

Yes ,me too got the same problem after using opera mini and nokia messaging…I will send my device to nokia care malaysia next month as i am out of the country where i purchased my device. I advice you to send it to nokia care .uninstalling some applications will not help ,I have tried hard reset the N97 also but no help at all.I will keep posted if I got any good news..

I just got my second N97. My first, the screen just stopped working after about a week. This one I just charged and turned on and there is a horizontal line about a cm up from the bottom. No firmware update yet and no new programs installed. I’m wondering if you guys have been able to resolve yours or if I should just take it back and try for a 3rd.

Hi , I hope you have to go for a warranty replacement of N97 for this issue (screen or screen data cable )This issue is terrible and Nokia should address soon.my friend had te same problem (Uk)and got a replacement.he used to go for camera lens cover replacement once a month as it always scratches !!!!

I love the look and feel of the Nokia N97. This is probably the best phone that i ever bought, the other best phone would be the iPhone.

i have had the same problem but i haven’y installed anyapps and the 2 lines through my screen appeared after i sent a text message?? any solution

I have the black horizontal lines after dropping my N97 twice on tile flooring in the mall.. The lines are all through the screen though.. Wondering if anyone was able to fix it? The touch screen is still responsive, everything else seems to be fine apart from these lines.
Phone is not under warranty i already have a N97 mini, although it’s currently in the service center as OVI store app. was not responding once opened… Hence while i was using my N97..

I received my N97 about the start of May this year it was a refurb from the 3 network. It’s already been sent for repairs through nokia about a month and a half after i got it because it wasn’t connecting through the internet. I got it back only about 2 weeks ago and have just came back from Mallorca (i rarely used the phone while i was away, only for the camera use) and all of a sudden i had 2 black lines just above the middle of the phone while i was still abroad but 5 minutes later they disappeared. The phone was switched off for the flight and when i landed and used it they were back on again. Ive done everything i can think of to get them off but nothing has worked. Im totally fed up with this phone
but im waiting on a jiffy bag so i can send it off for repairs…lets hope it works

Hi guys finally I got the solution ,the painful LCD change ! ,yes since I bought this N97 from Malaysia and currently I am in Sri Lanka ,the warranty does not cover my product here,so that the Nokia agent here charged me USD 154 and replaced the LCD. If you get lines on the screen meen there is a problem on your LCD ,rush to the Nokia Care !
