Be amaze with your phone’s half-hidden abilities. And for sure, your inhabited camera features on your phone will be unravel as we will go deeper on its sensor chips, urgh! I said no nosebleed. First and foremost I recommend to open your camera application now or start sliding the camera lens cover of your phones. Then we will now go the next brain-draining-steps of this article! Just kidding again! Hahah.

If you really like to capture great photos with those artistry you have learned for the past years, I’m sure you cannot complete it without any devices to use to showoff your abilities. If you are patient enough to follow this blog for the past weeks or months then you were able to saw some of the photos I’ve taken so far with Nokia N86, Nokia N97 Mini, Nokia N73 and now for my Nokia N97 Classic
. That’s not all I also have this 365 Photo Project for month of January and February.

Now let’s start to digest the few steps.

*This guide will be focusing on Macro/Close Up modes, Flash, and configuring the favorable and best suited camera settings.

Important matters to swallow, just like taking your bitter medicine tablets when you were a child.

• Always don’t depend on your Automatic mode of your camera settings if you will capture images on macro, portraits, landscape or anything that goes with arts.
• Be familiar with the basics of camera specs. I reserved some special link here to help you understand aperture, focal length, shutter speed, etc. from Symbian-Freak Forum by @lifenexus.
• Define your own personal Scene Modes. Tweak or Edit your own personal scene mode and don’t hesitate to try it now. Basing on my setup, I made it to Macro>Vivid>Cloudy>Medium ISO>Flash Off and the rest are normal. I made this because I am always taking small objects, our place is always cloudy, and I love taking nature’s finest living things.  Thanks to @Binku for helping me out about my previous post about  N86 and N97 camera comparison.
• Try all camera features and tweak all settings, it is like try & try until you find something nice. For example on the Nokia N86 8MP and its Sequence Mode shot is very useful when you want to compile photos for a time lapse video. And I had already made one while capturing the sunrise. This will apply also for grid, self-timer, etc.
• Flash and Exposure are the remedy for night shots but you need to setup the best configurations of these two. Vivid versus Normal and  we will tackle this with sample shots below on this article.
• Timings are mostly needed but for me you will need luck most.

And now let’s begin to masticate these samples I’ve got.

Flash and Exposure
Talking about flash here, and most phones have LED/DLED flash that are not bright as Xenon nor smarter than it except in video shoot. So use the flash wisely, put the exact distance from your phone to the subject. Sometimes it also depends on the subject if it can reflect or disperse the flash made.

Another useful feature is the Exposure and this will be better to configure if you don’t want to move your distance, like if you will use flash but you are near on the object then you can lower the exposure. If you lower the exposure for sure it will give you a darker photos as it will manipulate the light depending on your setup. The higher the exposure the higher the light will be expose.Take a look at these images taken with Nokia N97 Classic:

In contrast, more exposure more light so use the exposure level wisely. For the flash, just adjust your distance instead.

Automatic vs Cloudy

In the White Balance settings of your phone, you have there the Close Up, Automatic, Sunny etc. but here I will show you how useful a Cloudy mode is, taken by Nokia N97 Classic.

You could see that the Automatic mode gives a bluish photo while the cloudy mode gave a better color. But sometimes it really depends on your current location on how you manage the settings. *Note that Cloudy setup can give a higher temperature effects on photos when the scene is not suitable for the setup.

Vivid vs Normal

Shot by Nokia N86 8MP. Obviously the Vivid color tone will give a more aesthetic effects on the photo but this is not applicable always because during night time or in the dark area, vivid shots are very useful as it will give a more precise color. While on the Normal of the color tone, you will get more real colors during day time or with abundance of light. It only means that if the camera have good adjustments on the elements of the scenes it is better to stay on the Normal shots.

Sharpness and Contrast
This is my favorite tips for you, the sharpness and contrast usefulness. Who said these two features are useless? This tweaking will help you a lot to capture artistic photos. Even the objects you consider useless will be turn to glamorous one. Take a look at my shots witj N97 Classic.

Shoot Like A Pro
These tips and guides are not enough so I recommend that you practice then make things perfect ;D. Just give a few couple of minutes of tweaking the settings in every scenes you will capture, I’m sure that you will be amazed how useful your camera settings are. The important thing is how you use or setup your camera settings beacause they were made for you to explore and not for you to stare only,  so, GoodLuck!

There is no day I can’t open the lens of your camera phone (except if I forgotten it) and everyday is a new day so you will be needing some luck to figure out your subject on this project. But sometime luck is not enough because you will need to go with the flow in your daily routines and you will be just surprised to encounter some new yet simple sceneries and that’s how I minimize the tasks on this project.

The next photos you will be see on this 365 Photo Project were been taken in the lens of Nokia N86 8MP. From the first day of February going to the 18th day (sorry im not a perfect person becoz i miss feb11) was my unforgettable experiences having the N86 as my snapper. And I am really thankful how Nokia made their camera flagship by bringing lots of spices on the hardware just to give the users a different level of mobile photography. This phone is really a near perfect one.

Explaining in words might get your brain a little bit dizzy and it is better to give you the 17 photos that will explain the real subject of this article. If you are a follower of this blog, I’m sure some of the images below is familiar to you.

As digital cameras approaches the boundary of human’s sense of sight, the mobile camera are also reaching and stretching the limitations of their functions. Optical zooming, Xenon flash, bigger aperture, wide-angle optics and being a camera phone are already a big hit on the mobile sections. Some phones already have LED and Xenon together and that is one of the functionality that standard dslr or video camera can’t take.

The two paragraphs above doesn’t mean old ways was a NO NO! I am just sharing how photography been developed. And yes, old ways are not as techie as the latest trends but for some reason we are still in the area of old ways’ photography, and the Black & White was one of them.

It’s ubiquitous that we’ve seen the Black & White in the artistry aspect and the effect of this less true to life effects are perfect for the eyes of the artists and fans. The basic and old feature on the camera phone is really a blessing for people and I can say that I’m part of the crowd. And talking of blessings, I was the luckiest guy from Philippines to received the Nokia N86 8MP as trial device from WOM World Nokia. I’ve done some reviews of the N86 and now I am continuing the the Nokia N86 8MP Galore fever.

the Nokia N86 8MP Galore No.2: Black & White

N86 is just a couple of weeks with me and I am not the lucky person to have the time to take the glamorous scenes, and these photos were been picked by me to share it to all of you. Forgive my amateurish skills in photography. Just enjoy these bunch of Black & White photos. =D

With the help of Nokia N86 8MP, I was able to capture the sunrise with the sequence shots of N86′s camera feature and turn it in to 100 Seconds Sunrise. The video was composed of 100 shots and compiled into 1 video.

Aside from the sequence shots that featured on N86, I should also be thankful to the Wide-Angle optics that was on N86 (Carl Zeiss is brilliant!) that helps me to easily adjust in the scene. And some of the images where not perfect or similar because the wind keeps blowing my N86 while it was on top of the post where I put it on. Sorry for the amateurish skills I have =P.

The lists you will need in catching the flaring sunrise or whatever events you will shoot:

• Patience: You will need this coz u will spend hours of waiting.
• Plans: You should plan the time, place and stuffs to bring in your trip or list down all the things that you will be using in the photo shoot.
• Nokia Phones (or Others): Few of the Nokia phones like N86 8MP and N85 got the sequence mode featured on the camera application, other phones don’t have this.
• Food: Bring snacks or basket of meals if you will shoot outdoors.
• Improvised Tripod: This is the hard part, if you can’t get any bars or spot to place the phone then it’s your cub scout skills will remedy on this one.
• Compass and Map: If you don’t have the Image Space Application installed on your phone then it’s time for you to grab one at Betalabs. It is not a problem at all if you already have the old and chunky compass you found on your grandpa’s treasure chest. And don’t forget to sketch you ways before gliding and climbing hills and the alternative is the Nokia Ovi Maps.
• Weather Updates: Prepare for the best and worst situations, so stay tune for TV news and updates about the latest weather events. And HEY!, the AccuWeather from Ovi Store will help you if you have an N97 and if not then go find yourself a weather app only at Ovi Store.
• Extra Batteries and Charger: If you will be spending days or dozens of hours on shooting the scenes then it is time for you to bring extra back up batteries. On my N86 8MP, the 2 hours shoot with 1 minute interval was not a problem in the battery life.

Talking of #365PP (365PhotoProject), I have some plenty photos here which I took with my mini from January 24 to 31 (1 photo per day). It’s up to you to judge these macro shots of N97 Mini.

Let’s start the Macro week of N97 Mini for the 365 Photo Project.

January 24 - Close up photo #1: The Orchids. These kind of orchids' flowers last for only few days and then it will be poppin' out again after many weeks. Luckily I took a shot the day before the flowers withered.

January 25 - Close up photo #2: Mutually green! I found these interesting because of the vines that wrapped the trunk of the tree and I took the a macro on it.

January 26 - Close up photo #3: Global Style! These was the hardest macro photo I took during the week of #365PP, because Mini can't recognize well the scenes as a low light condition and leave me a choice to use the flash. From the terrace of my aunt's house I will present the Macro Ball! =D

January 27 - Close up photo #4: The Sunshine Effect. In the front of our house, there's something that catches my attention during moring, and it was the pink flowers that blomssoms.

January 28 - Close up photo #5: Mini's QWERTY. The black variant of N97 Mini's qwerty caught by my white N97 Mini's lens. The bronze and black were very sensual and pleasing in my eyes.

January 29 - Close up photo #6: The Natives. Sorry but I forgot what is the english name of these shells and I spent some minutes of browsing the web but can't find anything. Okay, just forget it for the meantime, because these is a great close up shot. =D

January 30 - Close up photo #7: Open Coke, Open Happiness! I always remember the N900 when I see a cap of coke and its a nostalgic way of reviving my dreams to own a Nokia N900.

January 31 - Close up photo #8: The Dashing Bokeh. Normal to these plants are the sharp thorns and its dashing spots where they are special in N97 Mini's macro shots.

During vacation I contacted and ask the help of many people from the neighborhood to capture photos with their camera phone. I have given them a specific day where they should capture those photos on that day. These photos were taken on the day that attached to the photo. In short, this #365PP is a photo journal that started way back from January 01, 2010 and now we will see the #365PP from January 09 – January 16.

This start of January going to mid of the month I am going to grab photos from my friends. But probably after January I should start the next month with my personal photo journal with Nokia and Symbian phones.

All I wish for this project is to finish up to the last day of the year and I can’t do that without your support and help so lets pray for the best of this project.

From the different pictures that I requested almost of them were perfect for the #365 day but I have to choose 1 photo for each day. I also included the best photos that are in on our lists but didnt get the day so you can find the photos on this article below.

The wonderful drops of water was the main attraction to this photo. Luckily 5800XM captured the subject very clearly and the flash didn't disappoint us. This was taken in the 9th of January after a rain on Siraj's place.

The effects of ice on twigs to this plant was the perfect subject. Most of the twigs and branches were coated with ice and the snake effect of twigs were amazing.

Why I have picked this photo? Because Sir Setter's setup on this photo is very technical and architectural. Optical effects of the bridge beams were seen really an amazing photography.

Its our honor to extend our trip to the different destinations around the globe. And our next pit stop are the towns of Colmar, Yvelines and Paris,  France where my friend, Steeven Ly from blog-n97.fr captured some of the best shots with his Nokia N97. Capturing the image of his own town is a little bit envying to my part, because I was so amazed and fascinated to his town and country. Every picture he took was really the reflections of the true beauty of France and thank you for those wonderful shots now I am motivated to dream and live in France.

So I will not laid more lines for you to wait and now let’s see what was I am talking about.

I was baffled with this photo where I am not sure wether its a sunset or sunrise. But much likely I would bet it is a sunset because Steeve are still sleeping during the sunrise. =) - Paris, France

Technically speaking we almost know  that N97 have the 5MP Carl Zeiss on its back and equipped with DLED for video lighting and photo flash. By seeing those photos it were mostly landscape and nature shots were the device performed well. We can’t blame the place on the excellent results but we should give the honor to Nokia’s flagship the N97 and to the photographer who have been passionate enough to capture these scenes.

All I can say the camera really performed well by rendering to a vivid color composition and a finer and a smoother pictures. So, two thumbs up again for N97′s job well done. Next pit stop will be exciting as we are having the trip around the world and I am eager to see what’s next.

The aftermath of the chaotic war lead to some destructions on Kilinochi, were some of houses and places were been ruined and destroyed during the war. This city was closed for many years and recently have been opened to public access. Luckily my friend is a Nokia fan and bring his N97 with him and gives the opportunity for N97 to capture the memories of the event.

While on the bus running at 30-50km/h my friend setup his Nokia N97 Camera to sport mode and started to take photos. No other setup was done except for the AUTO and SPORT mode so it will be challenge for Nokia N97. Luckily the N97 didn’t disappoint him and almost all images taken were in the best condition and not in the blurry state. You can even see the pictures are in great and vibrant colors. Details are vivid and satisfaction was really delivered. So rocky road and speedy bus were pawned by our N97!

I think the best photo that N97 took would be this one. Because of the lightings and rendering of true colors this pic was so amazing.

Find the smallest coconut tree. Done? Great! Next picture please.

I can see that those grasses turn to algae, it is good that fishes have extra meals while goats and cows will be eating those grasses that have been dip in the salty water.

This is not an illusion nor a tilted angle shot. The house experienced stressed and strained so it gives you an illusion effects. LOLx(laughing out loud eXtreme)

Actually the cable wires grabbed my attention here. I don’t know why I saw them first.

The island you see is the Coconut Island! I’m just kidding and I don’t know why it has many coconut trees. Sri Lanka is so abundant in coconut trees.

Nokia N97 proved that being the flagship is still his favorite title. You are lucky enough to live in a peaceful place but living in this place is like living in a paradise full of Coconut trees. You will never be thirsty in this place as you will get drums of juices from the coconut.

I am having fun with those Coconut trees hope you will share your personal thoughts on what do you like on those pictures. hahaha

The country of Sri Lanka is an island in South Asia, located about 31 kilometres (19.3 mi) off the southern coast of India. Surrounded by bodies of water and being a green country, Sri Lanka is truly a destination for those people who loves paradise. I know I have never been to Sri Lanka and I really like to visit it in the future. I have even compose a short (shortest) song for Sri Lanka and here it is :

From the hospitable people to the beautiful places of Sri Lanka let’s go to the man who owned a Nokia N97 and who captured many scenes from his homeland and one of this is our January 02 365PP.

With the Carl Zeiss loaded on the N97 boost with 5MP and DLED, this multimedia computer will always be on your side as your hobby buddy and will treat you like a king. This photo was taken at the backyard of my friend’s house and I don’t know why this picture attracts me. Maybe because of the color or just because of its green background? The Legendary 5MP, Nokia N82 shot the hi-tech bridge camera of Michael. With Xenon flash indoor shots and fast moving objects are just easy to capture. In spite of being a mobile phone, N82 was a perfect companion in shooting and capturing great moments and thats because Carl Zeiss and Nokia created a beast out of N82.
