Nokia is still working on the updates of it’s Symbian based phones. Next to the Nokia E72’ recent update  the X6 gets a major firmware update now. The firmware of X6 is about 9MB ,you have the option to get the firmware over the air .

Nokia has started shipping the new devices Nokia E6 and Nokia X7 on 31st of May 2011.

Nokia  E6 will be shipped to most of the markets around the world while the Nokia X7  exempted from the African and middle east markets in the initial stage of shipping due to market trends .This two new devices will  increase the numbers of Nokia’s Smartphone portfolio.

The touch and type(QWERTY)Nokia E6 comes as the enhanced E71 and E72 devices .But with a whole new Operating System called Symbian Anna plus a 8 Mega Pixel Camera. You can find the full specification of Nokia E6 here

We had enough rumors about the Nokia X7’s release in USA  for last few months and finally all stop at one point ,where the news reached us about the cancellation of the releases. But now it is confirmed that Three – UK is releasing the X7 soon.

Nokia 5250 gets a firmware update now world wide. The new version of the Firmware is 20.0.004.

I got few moments to play with Nokia X3-02 the touch and type device ,Here you can see some sample photos taken by Nokia X3-02’s 5 Mega Pixel camera.

Yes ,it is my hand  ! taken roughly from 50 CM  (just click to see the original size in the my Flickr account.)[I am not sure that X3-02 got an EDoF camera or Fixed Focus Camera ]

This is about 10 CM distance from the X3-02 Camera . Don’t expect a much more image quality form a budget phone folks !

Do you see the tiny dots,the earlier day 1 MP cams had . This shots taken during my office hours ,in a room with windows to permit daylight .

It is enough to have a casual shot !

 X3-02 is a touch and type device runs on Symbian S40 Operating System.  Have a 2.4 inch screen ; 3G, Bluetooth,Wi-Fi connectivity ,FM radio ,and all packed in a  slim sexy body .

Symbiandreams too reported  leaked photos of Nokia X7 [Rumoured Nokia X7 Pictures ,and Specs Via US]  and the Rumoured Availability of the X7 via AT&T earlier this month ,but what we heard lately was not a good news for Nokia freaks.(and Nokia too)

Nokia’s Decision to Pull Back the X7 from AT&T and the US market

“Nokia decided to pull the phone because it believed the X7 wasn’t going to receive enough marketing and subsidies support from AT&T, said one person close to the company. Nokia still plans to launch the X7 in other markets “ : Roger Kay, president of tech consultancy Endpoint Technologies Associates Inc

There was an announcement jointly  made  by Nokia and AT&T during the Consumer Electronic Show (CES)2011,that there will be a QT based Nokia device soon on  AT&T for US customers .But later there was any follow up news .

Even though ,Nokia is a giant in mobile phone industry ,it performs moderately in US market ,which is not just small to ignore .

Nokia and US market. 2010/2011

Nokia tried to penetrate the US market earlier   by several attempts ,using some US specific phone models ,which was quiet  successful .Nokia E73 Mode (which is a modified E72 successor worldwide )launched in US in June 2010 via T-Mobile . It showed a reasonable attention by US users and threatened  Blackberry a little  .

Nokia N8 in US-Sales Figures

Nokia N8 is available in US as a SIM free Phone ,not bound with any carrier .The fate of N8 in US in still not measurable .Around 4 Million units of N8 sold  worldwide in the Q4 of 2010 according to a Finnish analyst firm. Nokia N8 outsells Android phones in many markets so far ,hopefully it would gain US market more strongly this time .

Reasons to the cancellation of Nokia X7 launch in US

There are few reasons and theories

Verizon Wireless to offer iPhone-4 from 10th of February 2011 .

1. Verizon Wirless’s decision to sell the hot iPhone 4 : Verizon Wireless is nation’s largest 4G network and one of the strongest company with millions of subscribers .
2. Apple-iPhone is a leading brand in US ,Verizon is a big network – It is safe to go out from the competition
3. AT&T’s marketing strategies and the urge to sell Nokia X7 is under estimated or found not enough “Nokia decided to pull the phone because it believed the X7 wasn’t going to receive enough marketing and subsidies support from AT&T, said one person close to the company. Nokia still plans to launch the X7 in other markets,” http://online.wsj.com.
4. Out dated X7’s OS and spec : X7 is running : as US people fond of IOS and Android phones ,Nokia is hesitant to offer the Symbian^3 ,where it will get a direct comparison with the latest iPhone 4
5. Nokia needs to find new strategies to face the challenge posed by the Android phones “In the third quarter of 2010, Nokia was still the world’s top maker of smartphones with 32.7% share, down from 38.3% a year earlier, according to researcher IDC”

Ok let me stick to the title ,Nokia is about to announce the X7 in the upcoming Mobile World Congress 2011 that will be held in February 2011,predicted by lot of analysts . X7 will be a SIM free phone in most of the markets.

Expected Nokia’s Strategy for the US Market in 2011-Nokia’s 4G mobile phone

Nokia knows that the mobile internet use is higher in US and the growing 4G LTE mobile networks pave the way for a massive mobile data use. Nokia should come with it’s 4G mobile phone ,with a powerful OS [Meego?] or more tweaked / shaped Symbian^3 ,

Nokia E7 and Nokia’s shares

Nokia is launching the most waited Business Class Device E7 as now. Nokia put lot of effort on E7 and the release delayed few times due to the improvements made both on hardware and software .Nokia expects a boost in it’s market share among the Corporate Users against RIM’s Blackberry and Apple’s iPhone .

E7 variant is the answer to the US Market ? [my insight ]

Nokia numbered the E7 as E7.00 in their web sites . Like X3-02,C6-01 ,you may get Nokia E7-01 or an E7 Mode for the US market . E7 is a strong enough phone with a huge 4 inch screen,All the latest connectivity ,8 Mega Pixel EDOF Camera ,and encrypted data transfer ,Microsoft exchange server sync ,sliding out QWERTY key board with enhanced Symbian^3 .[E7 specs ] Nokia will do a study based on the E7’s performance in the market and will come up with a variant

You don’t expect any new experiences with this minor firmware update of your phone.

As Changelog of the X3-02 Firmware Update Version 05.68 is pretty small

• Stability improvements

You can update your firmware using Nokia Software Updater or Over The Air Facility available in your device.

But guys! Pixelpipe doesn’t work on my Nokia N97

. After the step 3(shown above) nothing happens. (Update: read the comments bellow ,and the tips from Pixelpie itself )

Nokia has released the Battery Monitor version 1.1 recently .

But in most cases you cannot get the download link active inside the OVI store (what happened to me in N97)if you already have the previous version of Nokia Battery Monitor .

An uninstallation  of the Nokia Battery monitor also will not help as still some files  remain in your phone.

In order to upgrade from your previous version of battery monitor to this new version you have to follow this steps .(For the first time installation ,you can get simply from OVI store ,this tips for those who upgrade  to version 1.1 )

Last week you might have seen the un official pictures and video of exiting Nokia X7 .A Tipp off from the tweet of the editor of  Mobilebulgaria.com reveals that New Nokia X7 will be available to USA customers exclusively via AT&T Carrier .

Nokia is trying hard to penetrate the USA mobile market using new strategies as  there are lot of other  mobile brands doing well .Blackberry ,Apple I-phone ,Android based devices,and Windows 7 phones are on the top list in the US mobile market.

Nokia enjoyed a good number of sales and earned some good name in US with the launch of E73 Mode exclusively for US market earlier .

N8 is currently getting heat in the USA market . Anyhow Nokia plans to offer another exclusive device to US ,and get more sales .Let us see how X7 help Nokia this time !

This is the season for Firmware updates ,Now next on the line is X6. Nokia X6-8GB got the new firmware Version 30.0.003 – updated today. The new firmware is available on the all two standard methods to your device. 1)Via Nokia Software Updater or from the 1) Over The Air (OTA) method. (Search here for the guide on updating firmware for Nokia phones ,if you are new to this ).At the moment the firmware update only available for 8GB models but it will be available for other variants – 16 GB and 32 GB also on coming weeks( So much of confusion in the models ).

Nokia Notifications is one of my favourites applications from Nokia Beta Labs,now it is available via the OVI Store as graduated from beta stage.It is a home screen widgets for missed event notifications .

Nokia Notifications gathers missed calls, voicemails, messages, and missed calendar alarms and presents them in one list for you to manage at your convenience. Installed as a widget in your device’s home screen, Nokia Notifications removes the need to acknowledge individual notifications that may otherwise get in the way of doing other actions on your device.

2) Nokia Battery Monitor

Nokia Battery monitor tells you about your power consuming behaviour ,applications and remaining charging time . The current version of Nokia Battery Monitor works fine with most of the S60 V5 ,but still the remaining charging time is not displayed in N8 ,the feature will be available in the next version update Nokia says.

Nokia Battery monitor runs as widget ,and supports the home screen widget mode. You can have on the home screen on the devices that support home screen widget (N97,N8,C7..)and run as a standalone app in other devices like Nokia Xpress Music 5800

3) Opera Mobile 10.1

Opera Mobile Version 10.1 it is different from the most heard Opera Mini 5.2 . Since Nokia N8 have sufficient memory to run memory consuming applications ,you can get the full use of the Opera Mobile Browser. Opera Mobile Browser Ver 10.1 is offering a full desktop browser experience same time reduces the data charges as it use a compression technology via their own servers .Have an exciting web browsing experience in you N8 using opera mobile. Devices like N97 struggles to use web sites in Opera Mobile as the memory size is low there ,Opera Mini is a life saver for such devices .

Just go to http://m.opera.com in your default mobile browser to download Opera Mobile or Opera Mini (choose from the on screen options )

4) Nimbuzz

Nimbuzz is the best IM client I ever used ,work fine in N8 . You can add all of your social chats together in Nimbuzz (Yahoo ,MSN,Facebook,Twitter and more). Nimbuzz offers you VOIP calls ,so that you can take overseas calls for free and lower rates. Nimbuzz  the multi IM client has updated to the new version 3.0. 5)MazeLock for your N8 (removed since there are some compatibility issues with S^3 devices-error free version will be available soon )

5)SMS Preview

SMS Preview is a very useful application from  my N97 times . Whenever you get a sms you will get a pop up message preview on your screen ,and have the option to hide it ,or go further to read the message .In order to activate the application you need a working data connection (only for activation )and your phone will send one sms to the developers as the part of registration process .
