(Post Updated )Nokia N97 Mini seems to get a firmware update as per the hints from various blogs. Nokia announced about some upcoming firmware update for the S60V3 and V5 devices last week. But this new firmware will not available in every region ,you have to wait for some time ,if it does not reach your phone variant .

How can you update your Nokia N97 Mini (July 2011)

Just look for the firmware update in the SW folder ,or just connect your phone with your PC and check for the update via Nokia Software Updater.

Hi ,my fellow  N97 users ,I have seen a good news (cannot make sure , whether it is good or bad right now ,Should be A  good one !)about getting a new firmware for out ill driven Nokia N97 phones.

Nokia N97 is a good device in many terms except the lack of physical memory and the issues caused due to that.After the PR2 of N97 ,we got some breathing space and still live with issues .But the upcoming Nokia N97 firmware 3 or 30 will bring more stability to our devices (hopefully)

Guys at NokiaSaga blog written a piece of scoop news that reveals about Nokia’s preparation to release New firmware soon for Nokia N97 and N97 mini.

This is an official  information page about Yahoo powered  OVI chat  service in Nokia phones,where in the compatible phone list you can see N97’s and N97 mini’s firmware version ,yes the upcoming version are mentioned there.

• N97 will get Firmware PR 3X(30.00XXXX)

• N97 mini will get Firmware PR2-2XXXX)

Nokia has released the Battery Monitor version 1.1 recently .

But in most cases you cannot get the download link active inside the OVI store (what happened to me in N97)if you already have the previous version of Nokia Battery Monitor .

Nokia Notifications is one of my favourites applications from Nokia Beta Labs,now it is available via the OVI Store as graduated from beta stage.It is a home screen widgets for missed event notifications .

Nokia Notifications gathers missed calls, voicemails, messages, and missed calendar alarms and presents them in one list for you to manage at your convenience. Installed as a widget in your device’s home screen, Nokia Notifications removes the need to acknowledge individual notifications that may otherwise get in the way of doing other actions on your device.

Nokia Battery monitor tells you about your power consuming behaviour ,applications and remaining charging time . The current version of Nokia Battery Monitor works fine with most of the S60 V5 ,but still the remaining charging time is not displayed in N8 ,the feature will be available in the next version update Nokia says.

Nokia Battery monitor runs as widget ,and supports the home screen widget mode. You can have on the home screen on the devices that support home screen widget (N97,N8,C7..)and run as a standalone app in other devices like Nokia Xpress Music 5800

3) Opera Mobile 10.1

Opera Mobile Version 10.1 it is different from the most heard Opera Mini 5.2 . Since Nokia N8 have sufficient memory to run memory consuming applications ,you can get the full use of the Opera Mobile Browser. Whenever you get a sms you will get a pop up message preview on your screen ,and have the option to hide it ,or go further to read the message .In order to activate the application you need a working data connection (only for activation )and your phone will send one sms to the developers as the part of registration process .

Blue Lagoon is a digital clock with elegant design, that provides the phone with a pleasing appearance. The clock can be displayed on the home screen of phones like the N97 and N97 mini. Nokia N97 is blamed for it’s speed and the frequency of getting stuck. But ,it all depends on how we use the device . Here are some simple tips ,I have learned by using the Nokia N97 over 9 months.I ignored the regular tips of making phone fast and only mention about my personal experience here .

How My Nokia N97 Became Faster ?

 (If your N97 is getting stuck frequently and running slow,try to do one or all of this )

1)Throw  away the bulky applications :uninstall all un used applications.you can see the applications running in the background using the menu key(long press)but please note that some applications are running as system services and not visible in the task manager.such applications also consumes  your ram and makes your phone run slow.(some reminder apps ,drivers etc)

2)Reset the phone(As last try reinsall the OS)The useual first thing  you should do is a hard reset. but few points you have to keep in mind to understand why it is always not successful.if you have some applications installed in your memory card,when the phone is restarting after the reset,the app will be reinstalled.As the reset deletes apps from the phone memory only.so if the app that makes your phone slow or get stucks installed in the memory card,you are in the trap again now.

4)Be careful with themes – most of the themes from third parties makes the phone extremely slow,for optimum result use only the original theme came with your phone. Always install themes in the phone memory ,not in the memory card. (before you give up your device check all this )

5)Keep the phone switch off - the best way I have learnt is giving a long rest .yes it is hard to do(may be hard to believe too) ,but it made my n97 became faster.switch off your phone and remove the battery keep it  for minimum 24 hrs.I guess this process clears the auto loaded apps from the ram of the system and may make some parts become cool !

6) Optimize Home Screen Widgets – some home screen widgets can consume more memory ,so better to keep small widgets and offline widgets like short cuts,calendar ,favourite contacts.

7)Keep the phone charged always: yes it is very important, I have experienced this  personally and realized very late. If your battery is about to die and you switch off the Nokia N97 ,when you restart the phone ,perhaps your system will be crashed. Charging the battery again in the off mode also would be impossible at this time(in rare cases ,but I have gone through all…such a hardcore N97 user)N97  will keep restarting ,the only solution is doing a hard reset. So charge your N97 every day and keep the battery indicator always above 60%.

Update : Oh my god !,I have got it back !. First time in the history(of mine ?) I have got the lost phone back. Any how it is good to read this short article about safe guarding your phone . Thanks for the Police to the help.

I have enough unfortunate to write my second personal experience about the lost phone. First was about my Lost Nokia N95 8 GB and this is about the Nokia N97.

On the way home ,I have lost it two days back. I knew,that there were lot of possibilities to lose  the phone on the way ,but I again did the  great mistake…Ok guys here are two nice things to remember to do with your phone’s security settings..

1) I did not use the inbuilt security features of the Nokia N97

Nokia N97 has a sms lock system inbuilt ,if you have activated it you can lock the phone by sending a sms with your code of choice ,so that you make sure others are not using your personal data.


How to activate sms lock in Nokia N97 and other S60 phones.

Go to Settings – Phone – Phone mgmt. – Security settings – Phone and SIM card. Once you are there you will see a “Remotephone locking” option that will probably be disabled. Select it and set it to “Enabled”. You will be asked to enter a “Remotelocking message” – this is the text of the SMS message you will send to your phone in order to lock it. Write something that you will remember. I set it to “lockmyphone”. After that you will be prompted to verify the locking message text. So type in your secret keyword again. You will be prompted to enter your current lock code, which by default is 12345 for all Nokia S60 smartphones ,but you can customize the security code ,remember to write down it somewhere before enter.

2) Even I did not use the standard  security pin to lock  the phone

You can give passwords to your phone ,this is known as the phone’s pin number ,you can lock the current sim with the phone and this will protect other from changing the sim to your phone. this all can be found under the security settings of all Nokia Phones. My nokia N97 lost with 2100 photos ,1245 contacts and hundreds of Personal notes ,bank pins, etc. I have a copy of  all of them with my Nokia OVI Suite ,but my personal information is now with some one…

So guys if you cannot protect your phone ,at least you can protect your data from bad people ,who stole your phone.

Flash lite is the light version of the Adobe Flash Player ,designed to run on mobile phones. If your phone has this flash lite ad on only you can  run flash based applications ,games on your mobile.(if the application developed using flash technology ,you cannot run it in your phone without this)

OVI store is the online store where you can download  free and paid application for your mobile phone.
